Biography

Since completing a B.A. (Hons) Sculpture at Winchester School of Art (2000-03) and M.A. Drawing at Wimbledon School of Art, London (2004-05), drawing practice has received both national and international recognition and awards through peer selected exhibitions.

Stefan’s profile presents an interdisciplinary drawing practitioner whose focus persists in exploring found marks and palimpsest, recorded through phygital drawing processes (physical and digital). The past ten years have engaged with field archaeology residencies as a vehicle for practice in collaboration with the School of Archaeology, University of Oxford. During this period he has been supported by the Arts Council of Wales (2013 & 2018). Stefan is currently developing a final body of work to complete a residency at Nesscliffe, UK with resulting works including laser drawings excavating onto, into and through paper, pencil drawing and c-type prints. Stefan is currently Senior Lecturer in Drawing and Digital Practice, University of Northampton.

Residencies: School of Archaeology, University of Oxford (2013-to date), developing practice and research through contemporary drawing, digital practice and art/ archaeology.

Lecturing: Senior Lecturer in Drawing and Digital Practice, University of Northampton, teaching across: B.A (Hons) Fine Art, Painting and Drawing; B.A. (Hons) Fine Art & MA Fine Art programmes. He has organised and chaired international drawing symposiums and exhibitions in collaboration with Drawing Center, New York, USA (2017) and, both Tate Gallery, London and Rabley Drawing Centre, UK (2015). Pedagogic research has received peer selection for many international symposiums, contributing to REF cycles since 2013. He has extensive teaching experience across FE and HE, including HE external validation.

Selected published articles and research papers include: Journal of Visual Arts Practice, Routledge (2018); Open Archaeology, De Gruyter (2021); and, preparation for a new drawing publication with Bloomsbury, anticipated in 2025.
